We choose and combine feel layers to work with the engineered support system beneath them. We consider the materials, thickness and how the layers respond together. This makes feel part of the complete mattress design.

Why we don’t recommend foam or fibre as a core: they make good comfort layers, but as a support core they compress under pressure, retain heat and fatigue faster than a spring system.

Ratings are an internal assessment, not independently verified. A qualitative comparison of support-system design, assuming comparable mattress quality. Comfort layers, materials and overall construction also influence real-world performance. “Recommended” reflects the Support-First philosophy, not a judgement of any individual mattress.

What does Calibrated Feel mean?

Feel is how your mattress greets you. Calibration is how we make it work with your support.

We select the materials, thickness and arrangement of the feel layers to complement the engineered support system. Each is considered as part of the complete mattress.

Both Lylax and Serta use this principle. Lylax offers one calibrated feel per design. Selected Serta ranges let you personalise that surface feel with Firm, Medium or Plush options. Best of Both™ offers one calibrated feel.

Feel is subjective. Thoughtful design brings it together.

Two people can experience the same mattress differently. Think of premium hospitality: one mattress design serves guests with many different preferences. Our aim is a carefully balanced feel that appeals to a wide range of people.
